Sorry We're Closed Preview: Look Into My Third Eye

How can something be entirely new but also brilliantly nostalgic? Just ask the team behind Sorry We’re Closed.

Sorry We’re Closed, from Developer a la mode games, is a retro-inspired horror game with deep lore and a wicked cool aesthetic. The game immediately feels like a love story to 90’s survival horror with a look reminiscent of ALTUS’s puzzle platformer Catherine complete with dark, eerie setting splashed with neon. Not to mention it is completely sexy and out of this world.

You play as Michelle, a young woman who has been cursed by a powerful demon. With no other choice, Michelle must enter the demon world equipped with her new third eye power and attempt to survive while trying to find a way to break her curse for good. Meet the resident’s of this unique London borough and influence your very own fate.

Sorry We’re Closed doesn’t just impress with its looks, it more than delivers on gameplay as well. Michelle’s third eye allows her to see things slightly differently while exploring the demon world. Something hidden in the human world may be revealed when using the third eye including things like enemy weak points, new paths and more. Michelle will also be able to pick up and utilize different weapons, each with their own special look.

Something else unique to the game is its combat system. While wandering around, playing will be transported back to the 90s with the game’s classic fixed camera angles reminiscent of Silent Hill and Resident Evil. When aiming a weapon, though, the camera will change to first person. You’ll be unable to move but will be able to aim much more accurately at enemies and their weak points. And Sorry We’re Closed handles the switch between the two types of gameplay completely flawlessly. It works incredibly well.

Sorry We’re Closed is set to release later this year and I can’t wait to dive back in. Boasting multiple endings, the game is sure to be an action-packed acid trip through nostalgia with loads of unique twists and wildly strange turns.
