Retro Survival Horror Heartworm Set to Release Spring 2025

Developer Vincent Adinolfi and horror publisher DreadXP have just revealed as part of the IGN Fan Fest today that Heartworm, the retro survival horror game, will be headed to PC this spring. Inspired by classics like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, Heartworm will feature mechanics, controls and graphics inspired by games from the late 90s, with an option to turn off some effects for a more modern experience.

In the game you play as Sam who, grieving from the death of her grandfather, falls down an internet rabbit hole in the hopes of reconnecting with him. She decides to follow a lead from a mysterious forum and ventures to a supposedly supernatural house in the hopes of making contact with the other side.

Heartworm features both pre-rendered and in-game scenes, a modern control scheme with 3rd person, over the shoulder aiming and optional classic tank controls, options pixelation and retro effects, a haunting original soundtrack and 4-6 hours of gameplay with multiple endings.

If you can’t wait to dive into the game you can check out the Heartworm demo on Steam right now as part of the February Steam Next Fest. While you’re there, be sure to wishlist the game to keep up to date on future announcements.
