One-Eyed Likho Preview: Ignite the Evil

Sometimes knowledge isn’t worth it when the journey to find it is so dangerous, but they say knowledge is only gained by those who have seen Likho.

From Developer Morteshka, One-Eyed Likho is a psychological horror game based in a dark world inspired by a Salvic fairy tale. In the game’s demo, available now on Steam, you play as a man named Smith who has gone in search of Likho, a creature that is said to be the embodiment of evil fate and misfortune. After heavily drinking one night he is visited by a strange creature who encourages him to seek out Likho to find the knowledge that he craves and to see an evil that he has never experienced before.

You’ll start off immediately setting out in One-Eyed Likho’s unsettling greyscale world as you attempt to get closer to finding this creature. You’re accompanied by a man referred to only as “Tailor” who seems to have a bit of knowledge himself and is intrigued, at least at first, by your quest to find Likho. He asks to tag along and will follow you around as you explore a darkened forest devoid of anything except for the occasional crow. You’ll also find notes scattered about that hint at what players can expect as they progress. Tailor has his own stories to tell and will speak to Smith regarding the rumors he’s heard about Likho including that it’s very dangerous.

Despite the warnings, Smith is still determined in his quest and you’ll find that the closer he gets to his answers, the more unsettling the world becomes. You’ll eventually uncover a cabin where you’ll equip a lighter that can be used to burn away obstacles. Throughout the rest of the demo you’ll use this lighter to burn certain things to help you find the right path forward. You’ll also solve puzzles by collecting objects needed to unlock doors blocking your way.

One-Eyed Likho’s short demo only gives a short glimpse of what to expect in the main game, but it is expertly crafted to leave you wanting more. You will want answers just as desperately as Smith does and, if you’re willing to venture into the darkness of the forest, you may just get some. One-Eyed Likho is a promising first person psychological horror and we can’t wait to see how else the team at Morteshka plans to scare us when the game launches in full.
