Morgan: Metal Detective Preview: Hunting For Life's Great Treasures

It would be the coolest thing ever to go metal detecting in your backyard and unexpectedly find something incredible. Talk about bragging rights. Uncovering a little bit of history right on your doorstep? You’d be a legend!

Morgan: Metal Detective from Developer Studio Morgan is a cozy, first person metal detector adventure game where you play as Morgan, a young woman visiting the lovely Cornish island of Glasden after the death of her grandfather. Morgan’s grandfather used to tell her all about the secret treasure that Glasden has hidden and now, after inheriting his old metal detector, Morgan can’t wait to set out to find it. But, how does one find this treasure? By squeezing info from the locals, of course!

Gladen is home to a sweet and interesting group of residents. By chatting with each one, Morgan is able to learn more about Glasden, the hidden treasure and she may even be able to help a few folks out with her new metal detecting skills. During the game’s short demo, currently available on Steam, Morgan meets up with a local named Dave who seems to have lost his engagement ring. After giving you a bit of an idea of where you might find it, you’ll be given free reign to explore the area.

Using Morgan’s metal detector is pretty simple. You’re able to hold the device steady and move around or sweep an area with the wand until you hear a beeping sound. The beeping sound indicates that there is a metal object somewhere nearby. You’ll have to pinpoint the best location and, once you’ve done that, start digging! You aren’t always going to find a stunning treasure, in fact there’s a lot of soda can ring pulls in your future, but when you snag a fun item it’s well worth the effort.

Morgan: Metal Detective’s demo doesn’t currently show off the full scope of what features will be available in the game, but the game’s Steam page boasts even more features to expect. In the full game, you’ll be able to take photographs around Glasden using Morgan’s adorable polaroid camera, trade in the items that you’ve collected in your travels, collect sticker packs and decorate your notebook and much more.

With a fully voiced set of characters that truly bring the beautiful island of Glasden together, Morgan: Metal Detective is sure to be a compelling and entertaining cozy adventure. There’s no release date yet, but I can’t wait to venture further into Glasden and see what treasures await just below the surface.
