Floridale Man: The Joy of Chaos Preview: You Can't Tune a Fish, but It Can Be a Weapon

America is a large country made up of 49 beautiful, interesting, and diverse states. And then there's Florida.

As a native Floridian, born and raised, I grew up in a rare, unique environment. That environment was filled with certain things that would feel out of place anywhere other than Florida. Alligators, Publix's incredible sub sandwiches, advertisements for Disney World, palm trees with Christmas lights, the works. And the team at Mouldbreaker Interactive, the Developer behind the upcoming sandbox game Floridale Man: The Joy of Chaos has taken inspiration from the sunshine state and created something wonderfully chaotic and fun.

You play as the titular Floridale Man, a guy in his 30’s living in a beautifully beachy state similar to the aforementioned Florida. There he meets Al E. Gator, a gator that encourages him to take charge of his life and do what he does best - help people and wreak havoc. Floridale Man: The Joy of Chaos is a sandbox game which means that you can pretty much interact with anything and everything you come in contact with from sunscreen to starfish and use those items around the world to cause unexpected and hilarious outcomes.

Mouldbreaker Interactive kindly gave me a look at a current build of their game and I quickly fell in love with the familiar sights and sounds of my home state. I met Poseidon (but you can call him Don), who is feeling a little bit down. Al, your gator friend, encourages you to help Don out by collecting certain objects around the map to cheer him up. While exploring I also met Chum, a singing fish whose normal purpose is to be hung on the wall for decoration (if you know, you know) and The Prince of Darkness, also known as Rowan.

Of course your mission isn’t as easy as simply picking up objects and bringing them back to Don - you’ll have to do some favors for other folks along the way. Rowan asks you to find a starfish and create a flamethrower to light candles so that he can summon the powerful Cthulu, everyone’s favorite Eldritch horror. Creating a flamethrower is as easy as combining together a candle and some bug spray, but there are many other crazy combinations you can use later to make even more fun creations and, of course, cause even more chaos.

Floridale Man is all about mayhem and fun and that’s clear from the very start. While I was only given a glimpse at what players can expect, it is already an absolute joy to play. Get ready to equip your squid ink bazookas, soak up the sun and maybe even visit SPACE when Floridale Man: The Joy of Chaos launches next year.
