Cabernet Preview: Try the Wine It's Delicious
She did it right there out on the deck, put her vampire teeth in the side of my neck.
Cabernet from Developer Party for Introverts is a story rich RPG where you play as Liza, a recently turned vampire who must come to terms with her new lifestyle. Do you have what it takes to make difficult choices while attempting to maintain what’s left of your humanity? Or will you descend into madness?
Set to release later this year, Cabernet plays similar to a point-and-click game with players controlling Liza as she explores her new home inspired by 19th century Eastern Europe. In the game’s Steam demo, Liza awakens in the basement of the elegant Countess Orlova. When you make your way upstairs you’ll discover all manner of guests in the countess’s home - humans and vampires alike. After getting your bearings, and having a filling glass of cabernet (the vampire’s secret code word for blood), you’ll be introduced to Hussar who will teach you a bit about your new vampiric abilities.
LIsa’s first new found ability is turning into a bat which allows you to traverse the world quickly and easily. You can change between your human form and bat form at will provided you’ve got a safe place to land when coming out of your bat form. Liza is also able to hypnotize humans, influencing them in a variety of ways. How you utilize Liza’s abilities is up to you, but keep in mind that every choice you make will shape the outcome of her story.
Certain activities will upgrade Liza’s base stats and these stats will either help or hinder her in conversations and situations later on. If Liza is well-read, she’ll be able to use educated guesses for certain conversational topics. If she’s strong she might use this strength to get out of a sticky situation, it’s up to you to decide whether you’d like Liza to be decent at everything or great at just a few things. Whatever choice you make will change situations for better or for worse.
Cabernet’s Steam demo gives just a small glimpse into what the full game will have to offer but ultimately focuses on survival. You’ll have to decide for yourself whether to embrace the night and become a full-fledged vampire, consuming those more vulnerable than you to survive or resist this new life and decide for yourself what it means to be a vampire. Cabernet is shaping up to be an intriguing, emotional and deliciously horrific adventure.
